The Dallas Mavericks have been searching for some consistency on the defensive end from their big men for some time. It would appear, at least on the surface that they may have found that.
When Dallas originally acquired Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets, there were varying reports swirling about around his attitude, work ethic and overall love of the game. Many talked about how he was a liability on the defensive end of the floor.
Wood’s offense has never been in question. He is shooting 38.3 percent from behind the arc, and scoring 18 points per game. He provides an excellent offensive complement to the Mavericks’ MVP candidate, Luka Doncic.
Wood’s defense of late has been the most impressive aspect of his game though. In the last 10 games, Wood has averaged 2.4 blocks per game. Teams tended to target him at the start of the season, but he is making them think twice. His highest block total came in January 5, against the Houston Rockets, where he racked up 5 blocks.
There are always players the Mavericks show interest in with the trade deadline quickly approaching. It would appear they have already have a pretty good fit with Wood, does that translate to a long term contract?
