With the trade deadline officially a month away, many teams will be assessing their rosters to determine if a move is necessary or not. The Dallas Mavericks have been linked to several players such as: Trae Young, Zach Lavine and Bojan Bogdanovic. Let's take a look at a few realistic moves the Mavericks could make, and their impact on the team.
Scenario One: The Dallas Mavericks receive Harrison Barnes and Richaun Holmes, and send JaVale McGee, Christian Wood and Reggie Bullock to the Sacramento Kings.
Dallas has a tough choice to make with Christian Wood. They have recently expressed interest into a reported two-year extension, worth approximately $36 million. However, with the way Wood is playing, he might bet on himself to receive a better offer elsewhere in the offseason. In that case, the Mavericks should look to get some assets back, rather than letting him walk for nothing, like Brunson last season.
Holmes provides an athletic center the Mavericks can start who provides them with an interior presence, both defensively and could help with their rebounding woes. Barnes is a proven scorer, who fits the mold of what the Mavericks need. Barnes is shooting over 50 percent on catch and shoot threes. He would be a strong asset to pair with Luka Doncic, who is the facilitator of the offense.
Scenario Two: The Dallas Mavericks receive Jordan Clarkson and Kelly Olynyk, and send Christian Wood and Reggie Bullock to the Utah Jazz.
Clarkson has proven himself to be a very reliable scorer, both from a starter role and off of the bench. Olynyk is also a great pickup for the Mavericks, and can do a bit of everything on the court. He can hold his own in the paint defensively, rebound and can even shoot the basketball efficiently.
There are several moves that the Mavericks could look to make when it comes to the looming trade deadline. Mavericks fans will just have to wait and see what Nico Harrison and the front office feel are necessary moves to make.
