With the trade deadline looming this afternoon the 214 The Win writers wanted to come to together and offer a few ideas that we believe could make this Mavericks team better.
Mike Sanders:
“Well, things escalated quickly didn’t they? The entire mindset of this Dallas Mavericks trade deadline has taken a 180. After completing the trade for Kyrie Irving, it’s reported that Dallas isn’t done making noise at this year’s deadline. The L.A. Clippers have interest in Christian Wood according to Marc Stein, but my gut tells me the Mavericks won’t want to trade Wood to the Clippers. My thoughts are the Mavericks should call up the Charlotte Hornets and offer Christian Wood and a 2025 2nd round pick for P.J. Washington and Mason Plumlee. The Mavericks need depth at the center and forward spots and this provides them that depth. All players involved are on expiring deals, and P.J. Washington should enter restricted free agency this summer. The Hornets are one of the few teams this summer who could & potentially would want to offer a larger contract to Christian Wood. This could fulfill their pursuit of a scoring big man.”

“Following the trade for Kyrie Irving, there are still some trade options to help bolster their roster before Thursday's trade deadline. One of those options could be to work a deal with the Detroit Pistons.
With the departure of Dorian Finney-Smith, someone will benefit from the minutes that he provided to Dallas. One person that is sure to benefit with a minute increase would almost certainly be Josh Green. Green has shown himself to be a nice piece to have on the roster, and provides effort and intensity that this team desperately needs.
However, another option would be to trade for another scoring wing player. In this scenario, the Dallas Mavericks would trade Tim Hardaway Jr and Javale Mcgee to Detroit. In return they would receive Bojan Bogdanovic and Isaiah Stewart, both of which would provide instant impact to their roster.
Bojan Bogdanovic is currently averaging 21.4 points per game in Detroit. He has proven that he can score, both from mid-range and behind the arc. He also is an above-average defender who could give them a third (or fourth if they hold onto Christian Wood before the deadline) to help make the offense a very formidable one.
The acquisition of Isaiah Stewart is an intriguing one for the Mavs. Stewart is averaging more than 11 points per game, and is also providing over 8 rebounds per game as well. At 6'8, and weighing 250 pounds, he is an imposing figure in the paint that will provide an intimidating presence in their front-court.
Overall, this appears to be a very beneficial option for Dallas to consider. Many feel that they are still planning a few moves to pursue before the deadline, so Mavericks fans will have to wait to see what Nico Harrison and the front office may have up their sleeve.”

The Mavericks have repeatedly shown interest in Philadelphia 76er, Matisse Thybulle. Thybulle has worked his way out of the rotation for the coaching staff in Philly and I’d be interested to see if one man’s trash is in fact another man’s treasure. Matisse is only playing 12 minutes per game right now but still averages a better defensive rating than any current Maverick player. He won’t be an offensive threat at all but with the Luka and Kyrie duo he doesn't really need to be. Shipping Javale McGee and Frank Ntilikina with a future pick to Philly for Montrezl Harrell and Matisse Thybulle could fill some much needed defensive deficiencies in Dallas.
Early in the trade deadline season there was a lot of whispers about Cleveland wanting to move Caris LeVert and that they seemed to value Tim Hardaway Jr. This trade would work straight across and would give the Mavericks another expiring contract in Levert. Both LeVert and Hardaway Jr. could use a change in scenery and so could Mavs fans.
